Solano Real Estate Scene: Jim Porter
Article By: Jim Porter – September 23, 2022
As I watched the numerous 9/11 memorials and the collapse of the twin towers on TV, I was thinking about how important teamwork is in business, sports and family.
The Tom Brady-led Bucs team clobbered the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 11. Do you think they could have accomplished this victory if the 11 players on defense refused to practice during the preseason with the 11 guys on offense because they didn’t like their political views?
As I watched the two towers fall and the 3,000 Americans die, I thought about the divided country today. Fifteen hundred Republicans and 1,500 Democrats perished Sept. 11, 2001, and the country united because they were Americans, and this happened on American soil. The first responders didn’t care what party the people belonged to as they climbed the stairs.
The American Dream will become a nightmare if we don’t come together as Americans and fight as a spirited team for our children and our grandchildren. The government and the media don’t seem to care about the destruction of the middle class or the 12 million children in America living in poverty today. It’s up to us.
The American Dream of homeownership and financial happiness for our kids is doomed if we keep printing money because these young people will be the ones who have to pay it back.
Over the past 50 years, the average household income has only risen 18% while housing has increased 175% and college tuition 260%. In 1972, our national debt was $427 billion and we had a 34% debt to GDP ratio. Today, it’s more than $31 trillion and a debt to GDP ratio over 120%. Inflation and another energy crisis that might make the one we saw during the late 1970s look tiny, will require a unified America to overcome.
