The “AI boom” has pushed single-family median home prices in my old hometown of San Francisco to a historic record of $2.15 million as of March 2026 per Google AI and per Realtor.com the median in my current hometown of Fairfield for March was $620,000.
Fairfield is only 46 miles away from San Francisco and you can buy a home here for one-third the cost.
The AI Boom has created hundreds of multimillionaires. Believe it or not, quite a few people bought $10,000 worth of Nvidia stock before St. Patrick’s Day in 2016 and now that investment is worth $1.8 million. Wow, talk about luck of the Irish!
This is the “AI Boom” that has created a ton of new wealth for investors and for the employees of these tech companies. It’s not the old San Francisco money that is paying $2.15 million for a 1,400-square-foot house on a 3,000-square-foot lot.
As of March, there are only 550 homes for sale in San Francisco and around 250 in Fairfield, while 5,000 real estate agents are working the big City and 1200 or are working in the Fairfield and Northern Solano County markets.
While the two cities are quite different, the one thing both have in common is a shortage of homes for sale.
